REV∙E∙LA∙TION n. 1. Making something evident.
2. An enlightening or astonishing disclosure.
3. A manifestation of divine will or truth.
The rainbow has been exhibited in every country, every culture, every generation in a myriad of ways. It's been a metaphor in thousands of songs, poems and movies. It's recreated in jewelry, toys, flags, album covers, logos, clothing, sherbet… all tangible items representing those bands of color in the sky after a rainstorm that we can't actually touch, but only observe and enjoy.
The first rainbow was awesomely displayed against a backdrop of clouds to eight exhausted, yet grateful family members (and a big boatload of critters). This transparent palette was painted across the sky by God as a reminder of His merciful promise to Noah and his family that the evil of the world would never again be wiped out. Genesis 9:11-13
At least, not with a flood. Matthew 24:37-39 Luke 17:26-30 2Peter 3:6-7
The rainbow is a constant reminder of the price we pay in life for trusting our own limited reasoning as our basis for truth, rather than the absolute truth and infinite revelation—the Bible. Rainbows are revealed in the midst of storms as a sign of God’s grace. The light of His love breaks through the darkness of evil and reminds us that God is the God of second chances. Genesis 9:16-17
The most impressive display of this radiant spectrum is the one that encircles God's throne. Revelation 4:3 It appears in the last book of the Word —the final Revelation. A testament of warning, and hope.
So who is the Designer of this rainbow, and Author of this story? And how is that relevant to us—today?
Well, God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. James 1:17 But granted, times change. In fact, they're changing faster than the iPad you got for your birthday (sorry, it's already out-dated). But if you want God's perspective on today's issues, feel free to dive into these topics—and get a better idea of His perspective of you as well.
And if you haven't already figured it out... if you hover your curser over the green verse references, a pop-up box will show the text of the verse. You can click on "More>>" within the box to link to the entire chapter in it's context.
